Retention
When we remove your braces, we begin the retention stage of your treatment. It is normal for teeth to be slightly mobile when orthodontic appliances are first removed. Retainers hold the teeth in their new positions while the bone stabilizes around the roots. Dr. Lennard usually advises "full-time" retainer wear for approximately the first two to three months, followed by "night-time" wear indefinitely. That’s right ... Dr. Lennard never tells his patients to stop wearing their retainers completely, as relapse can occur very quickly! Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainers before brushing, and brush your retainers before placing them back into your mouth.
